8-year-old boy died after allegedly drinking poisoned palm wine
At Awutu Bantama in the Awutu Senya West District of the Central Region, an eight-year-old boy lost his life after drinking a substance that was perhaps palm wine.
The young boy identified as Agya Kwao passed away after consuming the substance from the farm of a palm wine tapper who allegedly poisoned the substance after suspecting that certain people were stealing from him.
Mercy Acquah, the deceased boy’s aunt, claims she saw the boy screaming for help and was transported to the hospital, but she passed away a few hours later.

When the Awutu Bereku Police arrived at the site to transport a sample of the palm wine to the hospital, it was determined that the whole crop of palm wine had been poisoned.
Information acquired showed that the deceased drank his own palm wine, which caused his death, whereas the other three minors who had gone to the farm with him had thrown theirs away when they saw someone was coming.
The deceased’s body has been placed in the mortuary of the Winneba Specialist and Trauma Hospital.
The suspect has been detained by the Awutu Bereku Police Command to aid in the investigation.
