CETAG ENGAGES GTEC AND STAKEHOLDERS

The Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana had a meeting with the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) and other stakeholders on 29th August, 2022.

The meeting was to discuss issues about CETAG’s demands and the way forward.

The other stakeholders in attendance were; the Director-General of GTEC who chaired proceedings, the Chief Executive Officer of the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC), the Deputy Director-General of GTEC, the Executive Secretary of PRINCOF, the Principal of Accra College of Education, representatives from FWSC, Controller and Accountant-General Department (CAGD) and GTEC.

On 30th August, 2022, the Association released a communiqué updating its constituents on what transpired during the meeting. Below are the details of the release;

UPDATE ON MEETING WITH GTEC
Leadership wishes to communicate to you what transpired at the meeting with Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) and other stakeholders on Monday, 29th August, 2022.

In attendance were the Director-General of GTEC who chaired proceedings, the Chief Executive Officer of the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC), the Deputy Director-General of GTEC, the Executive Secretary of PRINCOF, the Principal of Accra College of Education, representatives from FWSC, Controller and Accountant-General Department (CAGD) and GTEC.

The following were the key issues which came up at the meeting: i. GTEC asked for further clarification on the concerns we raised in our Notice of
Strike.

ii. GTEC revealed that it had not received any letter from PRINCOF regarding our request for compensatory allowance for the all-year-round academic work although CETAG had served on Principals the letter dated 30 June, 2022 directly through their President.

iii. Also, PRINCOF representatives present indicated that they had no knowledge about the CETAG request and promised to find out from their President. iv. GTEC inquired from the CEO of FWSC where the parties had reached in the 2021 Conditions of Service (CoS) negotiations.

iv. CEO of FWSC informed the house that it had secured approval for our office-holding

V. allowances and he was requesting for some time to enable him table our revised Generic, Non-Basic and Book & Research allowances component before the Ministry of Finance for mandate.

vi. The CEO of FWSC provided a tentative date of 12 September, 2022 for the parties to meet to further discuss the outstanding of our request before them. vil. Leadership told the Government team that it was not confident about the assurances given by the FWSC since several similar assurances had not been met in the past.

Vii. Finally, the Director-General acknowledged that CETAG’s concerns were legitimate and that the Commission shall take steps to ensure that solutions are found to them.
