The President of Teacher Trainees Association of Ghana (TTAG), Volta Sector Mr. Ekissi Stanley Edem is pleading with the various teacher unions to help establish hostels in colleges of education.

During the 30th General Assembly of TTAG Volta Held at St.Francis College of Education, Hohoe kn Tuesday, 19th July 2022, Mr. Ekissi Stanley Edem explained that it is necessary for Teacher Unions such as GNAT, NAGRAT, TEWU, CCT-GH, ATAG among equals to help build hostel facilities in colleges of Education, especially Volta Sector.

He further stated that the construction of the hostel facilities can be done at a subsidized fee to help subdue the accommodation crisis in the colleges and also create a strong teacher trainees – teacher unions relationship.

Stressing on the hindrances of the professionalism of teachers, the President mentioned a major challenge being faced in the colleges of education in the sector and the 46 colleges of education to be infrastructure deficit.

He detailed that, this became an issue when the four year Bachelor of Education programme commenced hence affecting the lesson delivery and evaluation.

Pleading with the teacher union, he seek from them to help establish these hostels facilities to supplement the already available ones and also enhance asfe and sound accommodation for teacher trainees.

Mr. Stanley Ekissi Edem also outline some challenges being faced by most colleges of education in recent times to be;

  1. Delay in the disbursement of allowance
  2. Effect of educational policies on teacher trainees and colleges at large.
  3. Persistent interference of some college management in activities of the Student Representatives Council and many others.
