FAILURE AS A PART OF SUCCESS – PART ONE (THE NOSTALGIA)

Many a times for the fear of failure and a thought of perfectionism, many people don’t want to undertake daring feats. The truth is no one is ever perfect and failure is a part of life. Failure is a vital part of success. If you never failed, you never lived. “A person who never made a mistake never tried anything new.” — Albert Einstein. Everyone has failed before in trying out new things and shall fail again pursuant to new explorations and learning.

Becoming successful in life is just synonymous to infancy and growing up as a child. It’s a systematic process where you try doing new things, you fail and you being laughed at. Many of us at an older age now, our parents still laugh at us on how wrong we pronounced or found it difficult in pronouncing certain words, how we crawl, started our first walks, talk, sometimes how we soil ourselves and many other nostalgic incidents. Nobody born, grew up into a perfect adult immediately. No human being started walking without crawling neither did we start talking without cooing.

We all have to pass through the five stages of development before becoming an adult. The five stages of child development include the newborn, infant, toddler, preschool and school-age stages. Humans have undergone various changes at their infancy in terms of physical, speech, intellectual and cognitive development gradually until adolescence. Specific changes occur at specific ages of life.

Are you wondering why the nostalgia? As stated earlier, success and failure is relative to our infancy and growing up. The sole variation is that we were oblivion of our failures during infancy. Failure is not a monster to be feared but a friend to be befriended, accepted and welcomed because it has been part of us and would continue to be a part of us.

Don’t think failure to be a bad thing or a bad omen. There are most of the people in the world that think failure is a bad thing because as ascribed or tagged by some communities, once you fail you are considered a failure and ridiculed with varieties of bad names and unpleasant descriptions. Failure is only bad, and you become a failure only when you decide to use where you have fallen at as your sleeping or resting place. You must be determined and persistent enough to learn from all setbacks, downfalls and rejections. Get used to failure, bounce back and build resilience. You become a failure if you think you are a failure because you have have failed or you derailed from a task. The thought you hold against certain unexpected hinderances to your success goals determine the life or death of the reality of your dream.“I have not failed. I have found 10,000 ways that don’t work.” — Thomas Edison. Failure is just another way to try things anew, expand our knowledge, understanding and to learn, relearn and unlearn. Failure is an element that gives your success a value. “Failure is the condiment that gives success its flavor.” — Truman Capote

Our failures in our success journey is an inevitable part of life that can not be dodged so in preparation of your success plans, add failure to the equation and try balancing them. Your pitfalls are the ingredients that cooks a delicious success story and spice it up for good aroma to attract more chairs. Be like that baby you once were, that in at attempt to Walk, you fell enormous times but each you rise with a greater magnitude, vigour, velocity, enthusiasm and exuberance.

Failure should not be an emotional thing that will smother life out of you. It should be a fuel to fuel your vibrancy and diligence. Shifting our attention to a biblical allusion, I can lamely say that even God, The Supreme Being encountered a downfall. Citing biblically is “The Fall Of Man From The Garden of Eden”. It was His intention to keep man to Himself hence His intents of providing man with all his need but unfortunately, man deviated from the status quo. However, that didn’t allow God to relent. He embraced man and cared for man despite the disappointment. That’s just by the way, all I’m trying to put across is that embrace failure, react to it positively and don’t let it be your defeat. “Failure happens all the time. It happens every day in practice. What makes you better is how you react to it.” ― Mia Hamm. I will end here and continue in the next part.
