GES SENDS A WORD OF CAUTION TO HEADS; CHECK DETAILS HERE
The Management of the Ghana Education Service has sent a word of caution to teachers against illegally collecting money from pupils/parents to organize end-of-term examinations.
There was a release of a statement signed by the Director-General of the GES Professor Kwasi Opoku-Amankwa on 1st August, 2022, which indicated that it has come to the notice of the Management of Ghana Education Service (GES) on an appalling practice of some Metro/Municipal/District Director of Education who collect monies from pupils/parents to organize End of Term Examinations.
Through the statement, the Management of GES reminded all Metro/Municipal/District Directors of Education on the guidelines suggested in the learning assessment framework of the Standard-Based Curriculum (SBC) which states that school-based assessment, comprising tests undertaken internally at the school level should form the basis for the Internal Assessment Score (AS).
This comprises Homework, Class Tests, Group Work and Project Work.
The revised learning assessment framework of the SBC document is available on the National Council for Curriculum Assessment [NaCCA) website. (https://nacca.gov.gh/)
More so, Metro/Municipal/District Directors of Education are expected to encourage Heads of Public Basic Schools and Teachers to access and make good use of the aforementioned website and as well adhere to all guidelines concerning internal assessments as spelt out in SBC.
Finally, the Management of GES called on all Regional Directors of the Service to ensure that the practice of collecting money from parents and pupils ceases henceforth.
