MPs to reassemble today for urgent parliamentary business
Members of Parliament are in the House today after they were recalled by the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin for an “urgent parliamentary business.”
Below is the full statement by the Speaker of Parliament;
The recall, according to some MPs, is intended to compel them to give the government permission to apply for another loan.

On March 31, 2023, the House went on a break after they had passed three contentious tax bills into law and the Nanton Member of Parliament had been injured in an accident on route to the House to take part in the vote to approve the laws.
On that same night, the MPs also gave their approval to two more Supreme Court Justices who had already undergone the scrutiny of the Appointments Committee earlier in the year.
The minority in parliament is not pleased with the recall right now.

Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the minority leader, claimed in a tweet that the purpose of the recall is to persuade MPs to support the government’s intention to engage in another borrowing binge.
He criticised the government for borrowing carelessly in spite of the nation’s current economic problems.
“I have been inundated with calls asking why Parliament has been recalled for urgent business on May 2, 2023. It is difficult to comprehend why the NPP government has the courage to continue borrowing after its reckless borrowing has completely destroyed the Ghanaian economy beyond recognition for generations to come,” he denounced the government in a tweet.
