We’ll make sure Parliament investigates Frimpong-Boateng’s report – Dr Ato Forson

The minority in parliament has said that it will take action to ensure that the Prof. Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng report is the subject of a bipartisan investigation.

Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the minority leader in the House, claims that his side will work on this matter in the best interests of Ghanaians.

This follows requests from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for Parliament and the Office of the Special Prosecutor to open a public investigation into Professor Frimpong-Boateng’s scathing galamsey report, which accuses some officials of the in power New Patriotic Party.

Dr. Ato Forson remarked in a media interview that the Minority agrees with the need for the investigation.

“This House has been urged by a vast majority of our citizens to institute a bi-partisan probe into this serious matter. We, the Minority support this call and shall take steps accordingly to trigger the necessary processes for an independent probe into this matter. So in the coming days, don’t be surprised if you hear the NDC Minority starting a process to constitute an independent probe into Prof. Frimpong-Boateng’s report,” he added.

The Chief of Staff was given a report on illegal mining (galamsey) activities in 2021 by Prof. Frimpong-Boateng, the former head of the now-defunct Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining (IMCIM).

He accused various government officials in the report of interfering with his work or engaging in galamsey.

Later, in April 2023, the report was leaked and made public.

Many of the defendants in the report have denied the accusations.
