Sometimes I wonder
Most often I ponder
Why do we chase life?
Something we don’t know
Something that existed before us
From our mothers’ womb
We came bare, with empty hands
Our lives are just but short
And we shall return bare
Why do we struggle?
Amassing wealth, money, power
Changing our skin colour, struggling to be seen
Knowing that we are stewards and not masters
Why don’t we invest in others?
What we’ve gathered
But cannot consume when the reality dawn on us
When our soul shall transit
On that day, even our bodies
Shall reduce to ashes
How much more materials
Which we can’t carry along that journey
They have no place even in the grave
So they’re all vanity
