Barcelona won their first La Liga championship since 2018–19 after a superb victory over their city rivals Espanyol.
By the end of the first half, Barca had a 3-0 lead after goals from Alejandro Balde, 19, and Robert Lewandowski, who had already scored 20 league goals this season.

Before Jules Kounde’s goal made it 4-0, Lewandowski added a third.
Through Javier Puado and Joselu, Espanyol was able to close the gap, but they are still struggling to avoid falling to the bottom of the table.
With 12 points still to play for, Barcelona leads nearest opponent Real Madrid by 14, with 85 points overall.
Since the departure of club legend Lionel Messi in August 2021 and the appointment of Xavi as manager in November 2021, it is their first La Liga championship.

In the meantime, Espanyol’s ninth league loss in 11 games has them in risk of being relegated from La Liga for the second time in four seasons.
With four games left, they are four points away from escaping danger.
