ESCHEW UNHEALTHY COMPARISONS

By | March 24, 2022

There are so many ways we think, act, describe or feel about ourselves, especially in the context of making a comparison against another person’s life. Comparing your life and success to someone else’s life and success is a very dangerous thing to do but unfortunately, that has been the status quo of modernization. Many individuals tend to compare their lives, successes, wealth and even their worth with their fellows. The truth is, comparison if not carefully done, breeds nothing beneficial but envy, jealousy, deviation from purpose and destiny and all other vices you can imagine

The best thing to do is, to let the successes of our fellow human beings be a motivation for developing our own selves in all spheres of life. Don’t struggle to exceed or be equal to someone in terms of wealth, ranking, social statuses, etc. Your focus should be on who you are, where are to be and what you are supposed to do so that after developing yourself, someone else can look up to you too.

We are all different individuals with different backgrounds, attitudes, support systems, intellect, etc.

Even identical twins are not exactly the same and that is how come their parents can identify them differently and perhaps, they did not as well come out of their mother’s womb together but one after the other. In as much as they came from the same womb, on the same day, their parents call one senior and the other, junior. In their infancy, their parents can buy and wear them identical dresses but that doesn’t continue in their adulthood. They grow up having their preferences in attire, food, colour, fashion and many more. Though identical twins are known to be identical biologically, that doesn’t guarantee their marriage to the same man/woman ( one man 9r one woman) except in rare cases.

What am I trying to insinuate? The scenario above is just to highlight the fact that we have individual differences. If biological twins and biological siblings are not the same, why compare yourself to another person who sometimes, you don’t even relate to in any way. Don’t kill your self esteem out of unhealthy comparisons. Embrace such comparisons and variations for your self – motivation and if you can, approach the one you think is ahead of you for directives to develop yourself, your aptitudes and potentials.
