KNUST ranked best university in Times Higher Education Impact
For providing high-quality education in support of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has been named the best university in the world.
On June 1, 2023, the 2023 edition of the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings was released, announcing the ranking.
The only international performance tables that rate universities according to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations are The Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings.

The ranking uses painstakingly calibrated variables to provide thorough and unbiased comparisons across four important areas: research, stewardship, outreach, and teaching.
A total of 1,591 universities from 112 nations were included in the fifth edition of the Impact Rankings for 2023.
With an exceptional score of 93.1, the KNUST earned the top spot globally, outpacing all other universities in the world in terms of providing high-quality education.
The SDG 4 – Quality Education category assesses institutions’ commitment to inclusive education, research, and the early years and lifelong learning fields.
The accomplishment in 2023 is a significant improvement over the rankings from 2022, which put the University at the top of Africa and 14th internationally in terms of (SDG4).
Dr. Daniel Norris Bekoe, the University Relations Officer, expressed his reaction to the most recent ranking and emphasized that this outstanding success represents the significant and strategic investments made by the university’s management over the years.
He lauded the previous and present administrations for considerable expenditures in infrastructure, ICT, and e-learning resources, which he claimed had significantly improved the educational experience at KNUST, in a news released on June 2, 2023.
